When Heaven Sets the Scene: A Florida Sunset Wedding Story
They say timing is everything. And sometimes… God Himself sets the clock.
Lauren and Chris met on Facebook. Their connection grew in messages and moments online—but the first time they laid eyes on each other in person was on a sandy beach in Florida. That’s where their love story first began—and where they would return, three years later, to have the Florida beach wedding of their dreams.
Although they now live in Ohio, they knew exactly where they wanted to say “I do.” So they came back to the very shoreline where it all began, for a sunset beach wedding in Florida surrounded by family, love, and golden light.
A Groom’s Joy, a Bride’s Dream, and a Ceremony Filled With Meaning
From the very first conversation I had with Chris, he radiated pure joy. He was the one who called to go over the plans. He updated me the moment they got their Florida marriage license, and his voice carried such excitement with every step. We often talk about how giddy brides can be—but Chris reminded me that grooms get butterflies, too.
Honestly, it was the kind of story that makes you believe in destiny. But it also came with a few modern-day challenges. For starters: how do you find a wedding party on a public beach when you’ve never actually met them in person?
We had spoken over the phone, but I had no idea what they looked like. They had hopefully seen my photo on my website—and thank goodness it’s a current one. Still, I texted and asked how I would recognize them. The bride replied, “I’ll be wearing a wedding gown.” Well, of course. But it gave me a chuckle and eventually helped me spot her as she stepped out of her car with Chris.
The vibe was casual—think beach picnic meets sacred ceremony. No chairs. No signs. Just a couple, their kids (two each), a few family members, and the call to love boldly and simply.
We walked the sand like people searching for the perfect place to lay out a towel. And wouldn’t you know it? They landed on a quiet stretch right near the very spot where they had first met. No decorations necessary—just the presence of something greater, guiding the moment.
Chris had requested the wedding begin at 7:30 p.m. sharp. But as divine appointments go, the timing was—thankfully—a little off. They were still getting dressed at that point (yes, in the car), so we began a bit later.
And that’s when the magic happened.
I positioned them so the sun and water were behind them. Lauren and Chris stood facing me, their children beside them, as the sky began to shift into hues of gold and coral. As I read from the ceremony script, they spoke their own vows with grace and sincerity. Then—almost as if heaven itself was choreographing the scene—I reached a part of the script that talked about the beauty of a setting sun.
And right then… it began to set.
Not as an ending—but as a radiant beginning.
What made it even more special? Lauren and Chris didn’t know in advance what I was going to say. They had simply asked for something simple and heartfelt, combining traditional and personal vows. That trust meant the world to me. And when it was over, Lauren turned to me, smiling from ear to ear and said, “Can I give you a hug?” That’s when I knew—this moment mattered.
I left that beach with a heart full of joy. And truthfully? A little inspiration, too. As someone who once stood at the altar herself and now has the privilege of officiating ceremonies for others, I couldn’t help but think—if I ever remarry, I just might do it on the beach. Because watching the sun melt into the horizon while two people promise forever? That’s the kind of priceless moment I’ll never forget.
I believe Lauren and Chris will have Joy for a Lifetime—not because their day was flawless, but because it was filled with meaning, laughter, love… and yes, perfect timing.
