💍 From Delays to “I Do”: A Love That Wouldn’t Wait

Elena had a plan—one that involved a marriage license, a narrow window of time, and no room for frills.

She’s a long-distance truck driver with a CDL and the kind of schedule that doesn’t wait.

After years of driving across the country, the Tampa native—once a CNA—was ready to start a new journey. She called me two weeks ago and explained that she and her fiancé, Ricardo, wanted to marry during her brief stop in Zephyrhills. A weekday Sign and Go ceremony seemed perfect. No fuss. No extras. Just love—and legal.

There was one catch.

By Wednesday, Elena called again. Her divorce hadn’t been finalized, and Florida law requires a three-day wait for residents unless they complete an approved marriage prep course. No license. No wedding. Not yet.

Then came the call I was hoping for.

Last week, Elena told me her divorce was final, and Ricardo was still in town. “Can we do it today?” she asked.

Absolutely.

That very afternoon, we made it official. Elena and Ricardo became husband and wife in a quiet ceremony in a Zephyrhills mobile home community. The bride spoke English and Spanish. The groom, originally from Brazil, spoke Portuguese and some Spanish. I performed the ceremony in English while Elena used a translator app on her phone to display my words in Portuguese so Ricardo could understand each moment.

With hearts full and vows exchanged, I ended the ceremony with, “You may now kiss your bride.”

No translation needed.

They kissed, laughed, and left as newlyweds—proof that love doesn’t wait for perfect timing or perfect plans.

Sign and Go ceremonies are ideal for couples who want a simple, affordable way to make it official, whether it’s your only ceremony or the first of many celebrations to come.
