Copy of Love Without Sacrifice: The One Thing That Makes Every Wedding Last

Claudia Mitchell-McLeod • August 15, 2025

It was a mild spring afternoon in Zephyrhills when Carlos and Mia walked hand-in-hand toward the white gazebo at East Pasco Park. A gentle breeze carried the scent of blooming jasmine, rustling the oak leaves overhead. This wasn’t a day for errands or chores — it was a day for tying up loose ends and starting something new.

They were about to walk away with two major life moments complete — all without leaving their neighborhood.

Carlos had been dealing with a billing dispute with a local repair shop and wanted to send a notarized letter to make sure his statement carried official weight. Mia, meanwhile, had been holding on to their signed marriage license from the Clerk of Court, waiting for just the right moment to make it official. They called Notary Near Me Florida, and within hours, we agreed to meet at the park’s shaded gazebo — a spot that offered privacy, comfort, and a perfect setting for what they had in mind.

We began with their Sign & Go wedding. In Florida, the law requires the officiant to conduct a brief ceremony before notarizing the marriage license, so I led them through the simple but heartfelt words that would seal their vows. After their “I do’s” and a shared smile, I confirmed their identities, notarized the license, and completed my notary journal entry.

Next came Carlos’s letter. As a Florida notary, my role is not to review the contents of a document but to verify identity and perform the notarial act chosen by the signer. I checked Carlos’s valid government-issued ID to ensure it matched the name on the letter. Because his letter did not contain preprinted notarial language, I explained the two main options:

- Acknowledgment – The signer declares that they signed the document voluntarily for its intended purpose. No oath is required.

- Jurat – The signer swears or affirms that the statements in the document are true, and signs in the presence of the notary.

I reminded Carlos that I cannot give legal advice or tell him which option to choose, and that if he had any questions about which was correct, he should speak with an attorney. After hearing the explanation, Carlos chose an Acknowledgment. I completed the proper notarial certificate and affixed my seal.

For Power of Attorney documents or any paperwork requiring witnesses, I can provide the necessary witnesses for an additional fee — a service that often saves clients time and stress.

Mobile notary services make life simpler. Instead of fighting traffic or rearranging your day, I can meet you at your home, office, favorite café, or a scenic spot like the gazebo where Carlos and Mia met me. I’m also available for weekend and holiday appointments. In addition to in-person notarizations, I offer remote online notarization for documents, though Florida law does not currently allow weddings to be performed remotely.

Please note: The information in this post is based on Florida law. Laws vary by state, so always check with your Secretary of State or equivalent authority for the rules that apply where you live.
